Crescent 04:52
This pale blue ghost against the sky Echoed in the ocean, catches my eye Casts a spell on the world below See it changing, moving so slow This crescent, rising Heart goes into hiding The waning moon says now time for rest I know it’s been watching, knows I’ve done my best The breath of the world catches, for a moment Inhale deep, keep it going This crescent, rising Heart goes into hiding This crescent, rising Heart goes into hiding
2.
Fighting Me 03:35
I wanna be strong enough, to hold this space for you Keep my insecurities at bay, and just let the love come through Cos I don’t wanna be a burden, won’t let you see me cry In the end, it’s just a battle in my mind It’s just a battle in my mind So I’m fighting, but there’s no winner here If what I want is to be happy, then why so many tears? My fears, are taking over, afraid to set them free But in the end, I’m only fighting me Yeah in the end, I’m only fighting me
3.
World on a wire, my heart on a string Waiting to expire, this life locked in The walls are covered, the rest in the cupboard Hiding my life away Portcullis closed, keeping my face composed Maybe I’ll have the strength someday Dreams of a new way are falling behind A palate of grey is my state of mind White neon signs flash far away Oh what contrast to the real decay World on a wire, my heart on a string Waiting to expire, this life locked in Down through the rabbit hole, abandoning all control Is it the real world above? Trapped between worlds as the truth is discerned It seems now that I know too much I’ll just stick my head in the sand Wait for it to go as planned Watch as the new path unfolds Unable, unwilling to let go my hold World on a wire, my heart on a string Waiting to expire, this life locked in I’m running, I’m running, I’m running, I’m running now But I keep finding the edges, no more hedging my bets They’re coming, they’re coming, they’re coming, they’re coming now My presence denying, nowhere left to hide
4.
Driving blind I know the road so well Can’t remember how I got here Sleepwalking through life Driving blind Hands steady at the wheel Blurred outlines pass around me The sky is heavy and grey Driving blind to where I’m supposed to be Driving blind to where I’m supposed to be Driving blind to where I’m supposed to be Driving blind to where I’m supposed to be
5.
As the evening sun casts shadows, all I see is the light As it dips below the horizon, I feel the urge to write To somehow capture this feeling, this perfect moment in time But my being, is suspended, somehow separate from my mind Somehow separate from my mind Loops come to a standstill, a closed circuit no more A calmness washes over me, like waves to a shore Such a sense of stillness, while the world carries on The balance, and the beauty, and to this I am drawn To this I am drawn Drawn in to this moment, feet firm on the ground I feel my head clearing, as I look around Feels like the first time, I have noticed the way The birds sing, and the breeze blows, it’s here I wish to stay Here I wish to stay

about

WAXING//WANING is the debut EP from Kelsey Jean & The Bad Health, a dynamic and whimsical project from the Melbourne-based psych-folk rockers.

Following their debut shows around Melbourne – where the band first took listeners on a mystical and introspective journey – the band’s latest output weaves elements of psych-rock and folk, inspired by the likes of Grace Cummings, Led Zeppelin, Dead Weather, and Nick Drake. They have sought to capture the energy of their locked-in and exciting live show through this upcoming release.

The title WAXING//WANING comes from the first track of the EP, (‘Crescent’) which explores the cycles of gradual transformation, of finding strength and stillness, but also being humbled by the expansiveness of the world around us. This sets up the rest of the EP with an otherworldly energy provided by a dynamic rhythm section and atmospheric lead guitar, while listeners stay tethered through Kelsey’s steadfast vocals.

Kelsey Jean, the lead vocalist and songwriter behind the project, expresses her excitement about the EP, saying, ‘We wanted to create something that transports listeners to another realm, while having a bit of fun with the imagery and feeling. I’ve always loved anything sci-fi/fantasy and to be able to bring that into our music is so much fun. The dystopian “World on a Wire” was my chance to geek out on sci-fi, as the rest of the band created a driving and explosive track around it. While the surreal nature is at the forefront, there are also a few tracks based on my personal growth or failures – like losing connection and becoming hypnotised by daily routine on the track “Driving Blind”. We think there will be something in this EP for any listener, and we are so excited to share it.’

About Kelsey Jean & the Bad Health:
The past few years have seen Kelsey making a name for herself as a whimsical and talented songwriter. Now with the aid of her new band, The Bad Health, she is transforming her sound. With a folk vein running through the core, they bring new energy with tight grooves and bold lead guitar. Taking heavy inspiration from both modern Melbourne folk & rock bands coupled with 70s psychedelia, they provide a perfect backing for Kelsey’s poetic musings and delicate vocals.

The Bad Health are:
Ry Hamilton-Smith on Bass Guitar, Nathan Abbey on Lead Guitar, and Wayde Suchodolsky on Drums.
